Tutor Frequently Asked Questions

A. What qualifications do I need to tutor with Miles Smart?

First, things first. You must currently live within the United States and be at least 18 years of age. We also require that you are, or have attended school on a full-time basis at a well-known school or University. As part of our interview process, we will ask that you be prepared to provide any and all education-related test results, report cards and/or transcripts if applicable.

B. Am I required to complete a background check?

All of our aspiring tutors are required to pass a comprehensive background check. We will walk you through the process to ensure it goes smoothly.
C. How many subjects am I allowed to tutor? How do I choose?

During your initial onboarding with us, we require all tutors to complete a survey indicating which subjects you are proficient in. You will have the opportunity to pick as many subjects as you would like. We will assess your selections and make a game plan together as to how we will use your talents.

D. Where will my tutoring sessions be located?

Sessions are held at a public location that is agreed upon by the student and tutor. There will be no sessions held at private domiciles. All sessions will be held at a public location, like a public library, Starbucks, or other business.

E. Am I able to schedule online tutoring?

Yes, you can schedule online tutoring sessions so you can have live face-to-face instruction with your students provided the student has selected online tutoring services. If the student has selected in-person tutoring, you may not suggest or change these arrangements at any time.

F. What if I dont own a vehicle? How will I meet with my student(s)?
Although we do offer online tutoring services at the request of the student, we do not have alternative means of transportation for our tutors or students. You must have a reliable source of transportation for any and all tutoring sessions.

G. What happens if I cannot make it to a scheduled session?

There is a 24-hour cancellation policy, so if you’re inability to make it to a scheduled session you must contact us at least 24 hours prior to the beginning of the session. Failure to notify us of a cancellation within 24 hours of the start of a session, will result in disciplinary action and your student may potentially be reassigned to another tutor for all future lessons. Multiple 'no-shows' may result in termination of tutoring with our company.

H. What are my responsibilities as a tutor?

As a professional tutor, you are required to provide exceptional tutoring services to your students. This includes clear communication, understanding their learning styles and habits, and currating each session to ensure there is continual improvement for the student. Most importantly, you are responsible for making tutoring fun!

J. How long is a tutoring session?

The minimum amount of time that can be schedule for a tutoring session is 1 hour. There is no maximum number of hours that can be scheduled for one session. If the student has purchased a package of tutoring hours, they are capable of scheduling as many as they would like at a single session. For example, if they purchase 15 hours of tutoring, they could potentially schedule five 3-hour sessions or fifteen 1-hour session. Scheduling will be based on mutual availability.

K. How often will I meet with my students?

Sessions with a student can be scheduled anywhere from daily to biweekly depending on what would be convenient for the student and tutor’s schedules. Because tutoring is flexible, it can be scheduled as frequently as the student would like.

L. Do I need to bring my own materials with me for tutoring?

Once you've been assigned to a student for tutoring lessons, you will coordinate with the student what materials may be needed in order to conduct tutoring. In most cases, the student should bring the textbooks and materials provided by their classes. For test preparation tutoring, we will supply you will supplemental materials to ensure you are completely equipped.
