Summer comes around every year, and every year, we are left with little to nothing to stimulate our brains during the break from school. It doesn’t have to be that way. A lot of students enjoy the break from academics, but what they don’t understand is that it makes their lives harder once they return to class.
Returning to class after 3 months of nothing but ‘fun in the sun’ can be detrimental to a student’s progress. This has been proven time and time again and it’s time we start paying attention. For example, if you’re reading this right now; do you remember what you learned last January? Didn’t think so.
It’s nobody’s fault! The way the year is set up makes it hard to not let our academic priorities fade. However, being proactive about the gap in the school year can put you at the top of your class quicker than you know.
If you’re a student or parent who sees the benefits of keeping your brain fresh during the Summer… keep reading!
This one might seem obvious, but a lot of people underestimate the power of getting your brain working through books. You can use these books to your advantage and choose them based on subjects that you know you’ll be studying next year, or you can simply read for pleasure!
Watch Educational TV
If you’re in the mood to relax and just watch TV – do it! At the end of the day, it’s Summer and you should be enjoying it as such. The simple choice between brainless television and an exciting documentary could make a huge difference.
Review Old Notes
As mentioned previously, there are a lot of students that might feel too busy for tutoring during the school year. Summer is the perfect opportunity to look over old notes of subjects that were tough for you during the year. Give those subjects some special attention and maybe call a tutor to help you out.
Tutoring, Of Course…
If you’ve never considered/tried tutoring – now is the time to start. Think back to the busy schedule of the school year. It might seem like you never have time for anything but school and your extra curriculars. That may even be true. However, there is a small chance that you weren’t struggling with at least one lesson during the year. For some, summer is the perfect opportunity to sneak in some extra lessons. Whether it’s refreshing yourself on the more difficult lessons during the previous year, or simply trying to get ahead in preparation for the next one.
Tutoring is not specific to any one person, place, or thing. The best part about Miles Smart Tutoring is that you can take a lesson anywhere. We offer virtual tutoring for all students, no matter the age or subject. Your tutor will make a lesson plan specific to you and your needs. This means they can help you create the perfect summer schedule to keep you from losing all your precious knowledge over the break.
